Overview
Shakespeare® 4282 NVIS Tilt Whip Adapter is engineered to support Near Vertical Incident Signal (NVIS) communications for 16 ft (4.8 m) and 32 ft (9.7 m) military antennas. Designed to improve HF communication coverage in areas commonly referred to as “skip zones” or “dead zones.” This is accomplished by tilting the antenna so that its main radiating lobe is 73° to 83° above the horizon. The higher radiating lobe causes the signal to bounce off the ionosphere, returning to the earth in the dead area that may occur 10 to 150 miles out when using the antenna vertically. Featuring a spring-loaded locking pin, 4282 enables quick adjustment between vertical, 50°, 70°, and 90° tilt positions, with forward or reverse tilt capability. An integrated locking knob prevents unwanted adapter rotation for secure positioning. Compatible with Shakespeare® 120-28, 4245, and 120-43 antenna bases, the adapter can also be used with the 120-HVPDR for high-voltage protection.
